Hello, My personal opinion is have the veneer professionally repaired. If the rest of the case just needs a cleaning don't refinish it, just get some orange oil, or furniture polish of your choice and put a nice shine back on it. Alot of folks who collect the mahogany cases use them as display pieces, like in a lawyers office, so appearence is a good part of a mahogany bookcase's collectability.
What a plus for you to have french bevel glass doors, not too many of those left! Your case definately dates 1915-1920
