I read back too and when you said "they were now inside" I must have been all bleary eyed and read "were not inside", but I am also see where Patrick was not around for the painting. I wonder if a dealer was trying to hide a giant problem. He also states he wants the least invasive aproach, I wonder is a danish oil could be soaked into the wood to help solidify the fibers? A wood fuesing treatment could always be added later if that didn't work. Just a thought.
