ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Old sewing machine cabinet

I recently purchased an old sewing machine and cabinet. It is the manual pedal typw. I have a couple of problems. One the wood is very dry and I would like to hydrate it. What would be the best to do this with? Also it has drawer pulls on it that are very dry. They are embossed onto the front of the arched drawers and they seem as though the embossed portion is a molded sawdust of some type. I determined this when I when to pull out a drawer and the embossed portion broke apart like sawdust. I want to try and save the rest of the original embossed portion of the pulls. What should I do so they will not crumble? I would also like an idea of how to reproduce the portion of the embossed pulls that have disintegrated? Thanks in advance for any help you might give. :-)
