Oil painting cleaning is something that must be done right or you can ruin the painting...and rescuing a ruined painting is even more challenging...when paint starts to come away from the canvas like you're describing it is usually a sign that someone has tried to clean with soap and water, potatoes,lemon juice, or some other home remedy....there are MANY places on the web to find techniques, supplies, what NOT to do,etc.. like www.gainsboroughproducts.com....Google a question (like: how do i clean an oil painting?).. and do some reading and you'll likely find what you need...regards
