ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

restoring pumpkin pine table

Several days ago a neighbor gave me what he had been using as a coffee table. On the underside there is, burned into the wood, an arrow enclosing the words, "King's Arrow;" I checked the Internet and found the history of King's Arrow, a furniture company in Claremont, NH. To make a long story short, the piece is made of "pumpkin pine" and is rare. I talked with several antique buffs who suggested that it was a butler's table; the legs are shorter than a coffee table's legs and there are 2 3/4" sides along three edges of the table top. The wood has an orange tinge due to the rough lumber being stacked and separated by fresh straw; the boards were turned every year, sometimes not being turned into a usable piece for 100 years or more. Please pass on some restoration tips.
