If the primary wood is Cherry, the secondary is probably not, meaning the drawer components...is this an antique set? Is there any plywood in the drawers? Some of these woods can have a foul odor by themselves that's just amplified by being closed up for many years....but if it is indeed an odor left behind from storing scented items, you may need to wipe down the drawers with any of couple of different solutions to try to minimize the offensive odors..I'd start with denatured alcohol using rags, changing them as you go. Wear rubber gloves and do it outside on a sunny warm day...try the most offending drawer first and see if it helps, then proceed with the rest if it does..James has offered several other good suggestions in regard to deodorizing, and sealing the drawers after thorough drying is also an option...they can be sealed with shellac, waterbased acrylics, oil (watco, formby's, etc)etc....and then you can even reintroduce another fragrance like pot pourri's or cinnamon stick sachets.....
