There is no question as to what you say about the superior qualities of white oak, Greg. The question was concerning the oak top in this particular situation. As for your remark that red oak is "rarely used" well that is very far from the fact! The fact is that as oak furniture became more popular in the Victorian era, red oak became VERY often used, and I made no mention of Stickley, who was practicaly the only user of fueming with amonia, a secret he guarder very well. As for the fumeability of one over the other, I have only read that the practice rendered even color over all, reguardless.
