Actually a little wax is not a serious problem for it is all over the place where furniture is concerned. It comes off with a little paint thinner, and if there is a lot of open grain, a fine flexible brush will do the trick. I can't be certain of what adhesive people may use so I look for the safest advice, it's amazing how little people understand glue and how much they spread it around. I think we all know that if the wax is supposed to help keep the glue from sticking to the finish we don't want if right in the joint!
