Since no one has responded, I'll pipe in...The one way I know to restore that cedar smell is to give it a light sanding (on the inside, of course).

And as far as the others inquiring as to the date of manufacture of their cedar chests, I was under the impression that if you reverse the serial number, you can figure out when it was made. This seems to fit with most of the chests that I've seen/heard about. Alternatively, you can email the company and they can probably tell you, too.

As far as value, check eBay for what people are willing to pay for older cedar chests. Last I looked, a decent chest from the 40s or so could fetch $400. HTH!
