RS341 RESTORATION:CERAMICS AND RELATED MATERIALS I
Discusses the practical definition of ceramic restoration, along with
the various materials, equipment, and safety precautions required.
Defines the unique characteristics of ceramics, glass, semi-precious
stones, ivory, and mother-of-pearl, along with the particular techniques
involved in the restoration of these materials when associated with
ceramics.

RS342 RESTORATION:CERAMICS AND RELATED MATERIALS II
Continuation of RS341. Guides students through the 20 steps in the
restoration of ceramics and related materials such as glass,
semi-precious stones, ivory, and mother-of-pearl. Students are
responsible for restoring several objects under close supervision.

Bridging to Specialized Materials

The South African Academy of Ceramics Conservation

The South African Academy of Ceramics Conservation is bringing its Module 3 course,
"Bridging to Specialized Materials" to Philadelphia, PA during June 2000.
This largely practical bridging course will introduce and train its participants
in the use and application of contemporary and specialized restoration & conservation
products, as employed at the world's leading conservation institutes, as well as at prominent
commercial studios. (At least some prior experience of ceramics /
porcelain restoration is considered essential for successful participation)

For those who already have some experience in China restoration or are thinking of taking it up as a career this programme can be altered to suit their individual needs. Emphasis can be placed on particular aspects of China restoration and on more complex use of different adhesives, fillers and paints. Tools and materials will be provided.

Students should bring:

Their own pieces of china. Preferably pieces that have been previously stuck, pieces with one or multiple clean breaks, pieces with rivets in them and a piece with chips in it.

An apron and rubber gloves.

At the end of the course students will get a list of basic tools and materials, a list of suppliers and a reading list so that they will be able to practice on their own.

For those who wish, the tutor can offer private tuition and advanced courses.
