I believe the amount of heat it would take to damage a porcelain enamel top is so great that you may be looking only at surface damage. Have you tried any cleaners on it yet? Chlorine Bleach may work, also 0000 steel wool should buff off the scorched look. But if the finish is truly melted you will need some very special advice indeed. Let us know what you can learn with this advice and get back if you are still in need.
