I'm restoring/refinishing an antique chair. 1. The chair has ornate carvings on the two back supports and on the end of the chair arms. On the back, the carvings are a more simplistic longated curves/swerves. On the hands, a lion and curves/swerves exist. There is some kind of white/cream paint/primer that will not come off. Additionally, all carvings have cracks throughout the design. (that is what concerns me). 2. The bottom portion of the chair (where the cusion will rest) has either rottoned out or termites got to it. It looks like it is deteriorating. Q: What can I do to perserve the carving portions (and the white stuff) and how do I preserve the bottom frame from deteriorating. I'm not knowledgeable/skilled in woodwork or rebuilding. Thank you for your help/assistance. Have a teriffic day!
