Be warned, as to Greg's suggestion on drilling out the holes for a larger size, you could drill right through the sides. Use a small 3/4" x 3/4" block of wood to make a spacer so that the bit can only drill a 1/2" depth. Place some masking tape over the hole you intend to enlarge so that the block does not leave a circular spin mark on the old finish. Also try wrapping one of the shelf supports with a thin strip of paper and tape to make a tighter fit.
