You should be able to get the color you want from an oil stain with a little oil base paint added to get a slightly green color, then wax it fairly often, say 4 times yearly. I think I would lean toward a wipe on finish with a flat sheen to the final coat, or buff the shine away with 0000 steel wool. The wood will have much more protection and you won't need to do all that waxing, plus wax tends to shine up even if you don't buff it a bunch. I have seen some pretty flat finishes that were nearly invisible due to the thin wiped on product.
