As the regulars here know I do mostly refinishing but oftentimes I do repairs for customers where the finish needs restoring, or they only want the top of a table done, in which case I have to clean up the legs or base. Generally the best way to clean up a piece is with naptha. Wet a rag with it and wipe down the entire piece. You will see a lot of dirt and old wax come off. I personally follow that up with Minwax Wood Cleaner, which comes in a pump spray. When it dries put a coat of wax on it and buff out with 0000 steel wool. Lemon oil won't really clean nor will Old English, which is primarily for hiding scratches.....hence the color in it. There are a lot of furniture cleaners on the market, most of which are just hype. They put a shine on the furniture to make you think you have accomplished something but that shine is mostly silicone which does not last more than a few hours. Pledge is the worst by the way.
