I have a cedar chest with strips of brass and nailhead studs that adorn the top of the chest which I love. I would like to stip the chest and try and change the color of the finish. I love the chest but, the color does not mix well with the rest of the wood in my livingroom. Question: Is it as simple as stripping the finish and but various types of stains. I am trying to get a oak/ maybe slightyl darker color for a finish. Should I buy the stain with the varnish already in it or should it be a two step process. If anyone has any suggestions I am open to listening to them. Thank you
