Begin by removing all the old wax and dirt with 0000 steel wool and Naptha, scrub with the grain and wipe often with a separate cloth or paper towel to see what is coming off. Once you have all the old wax and dirt removed, apply a Danish oil such as Watco cherry oil stain, work it in with some 320 grit wet/dry sand paper, after 30 minutes wipe off the excess. Repeat this with a piece of 600 grit (as I was saying) wet/dry sand paper. Continue staining if more color is needed, darker watco can be used to adjust the color. Always wipe completely, all the excess stain with in 30 minutes. After the last oil is applied, let this dry for 48 hours and then wax, a dark or mahogany wax can be used to give more color if needed, then buff to a satin sheen. Keep a pail of water to soak all the oily rags in, they can be flamable.
