Begin by removing all the old wax and dirt with 0000 steel wool and Naptha, scrub with the grain and wipe often with a separate cloth or paper towel to see what is coming off. Once you have all the old wax and dirt removed, apply a Danish oil such as Watco cherry oil stain, work it in with some 320 grit wet/dry sand paper, after 30 minutes wipe off the excess.
