butcher's wax for a finish?

I have an old Gunn Bookcase that I have taken apart and stripped. I read that waxing with Butcher's (or similar) wax is the best way to finish it. I have purchased Butcher's Boston Polish Amber Paste Wax and would appreciate any suggestions on its use, helpful hints, number of coats to apply, etc. I've never finished anything with wax before, have only used oils. Which leads me to another question. I have refinished an old armoir with boiled linseed oil. Can I wax over top of that finish as is? Thanks for any help. I'm new to this web site. What a great find!!
