The color of grape juice is not purple, and most wine contains other fruit that lends color. Without the skins most grape juice is not the least bit red, a little pink at best. The ingredients of wine are often enhanced with dyes today, and these can be hard to remove. With the alcohol involved, the dye can even penetrate the lacquer a little.
