ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Rocker has lionheads on arms. Was upholstered in yellow naughahide with a padded headrest. Removed headrest & noted what must have been a carved top which was cut off, nailed higher with another board, and cushioned in the material. Contacted someone who I thought knew his business. He ordered a carved piece on some catalog, and instead of gluing it on the original piece, he cut it and joined it with glue. Piece as too wide, so he also cut ends off and glued to side. My family agrees with me that the chair looks like it has ears. My son-in-law has built some furniture, and said he could remove piece, cut the proper size, and apply a proper carving on top. Could you help me? I could email you a picture. I hate to lose the piece and hope it can be salvaged.
