The product you are asking about is a very thin wax impregnated paper/masonite like product. I have repaired it with a burn-in and or wax combination of filling and smoothing then finished to even out the sheen. I don't know anyone who has had experience other than myself fixing the stuff, but it wasn't easy. After 60 years it had split wide open in several places but was intact and I was able to epoxy it to the wood sub layer so that the fill was secure. If it was missing all together, I might try a plastic laminate since there isn't anything I have found that would duplicate the material. If I am off on this surmise let me know and we can find what you need, good luck, James.
