I have a piano part in original black shellac and part in flat black paint, a recent poor, partial refinish job. I want to recover the original black shellac look. Must I strip all and refinish? Or can I save the work of full refinish and just clean and sand, stain over all, then finish? Will I get a uniform color? Or is paint better than stain? If I can cover the shellac, any products to avoid?
