Oxalic Acid, extract of Rhurbarb leaves, is best at getting the dark stains out of wood, resulting from water and iron mixing in and on the wood. Rust, as in rusty brown coloration on the surface may not be the same as this is more of a surface deposit. A common rust remover should work on this, but no harm will result from trying them both, and they may both work. I think a common home remedie for rust deposit is lemon juice, but you can tell me which works best, then we will both know.
