NAPTHA

i see a number of references to naptha for cleaning use - i had never used it till i couldnt budge some dirt on an item of furniture and since it was referenced on here, i got a quart and tried it - it cleans like crazy and smells really bad (ventilation !!!) I just read a response about cleaning tobacco film and see that it is referenced again - the response said there should be a shiny golden finish under the film - well - everytime i use Naptha - the finish below the dirt is intact, but it is dull, lifeless, and really dry looking - am i screwing up ? it usually looks exellent after a little buffing and waxing - but seeing that i should maybe find a shiny finish, im concerned - any thoughts ? (i usually just use it with rags as im just cleaning old grime and stuff, but more than simple soap and water can budge)
