Well that's a lot easier, I think if you apply a light application of naptha with 0000 steel wool, and wipe off what ever is loosened with a cotton cloth, you will remove the problem. Try to avoid rubbing through the base color. Next apply a coat of REAL TUNG OIL. Read the label on the can, get the good stuff and make sure it is really tung oil. A danish oil stain will do as well but that is boiled linseed oil, which is OK, just not the same as what you started out with. I don't like to introduce too many changes. Then after a few days of drying, put on a good coat of satin wax and polish to a nice shine. Avoid the liquid gold, that is where I think things went wrong, just lemon oil and wax from won on. And you can do this in the dining room, no problem, just put down paper over the rug first.
