Madeline, often the quality of an antique and it's finish, is in the eye of the beholder. (or bidding ticket holder) You may find charm in the aged appearance, over time, as I have learned to do. Some pieces that once seemed less than perfect, and when nessecary labor was taken into consideration, looked good enough to leave as age had determined to do. There can be a certain charm in an old finish once cleaned and waxed with a safe tolulene free product. There are ways short of stripping that an alagatored finish can be restored, but the task requires a great deal of experimentation and diligence, at least it may if you are a novice. We can go into that on a seperate thread if you want to get all the experts involved as this is more about safes than finishes currently.
