Absolutely..there are several ways to replace missing grain, or create grain where there is none....I often use a few drops of TransTints with a touch of alcohol and a drop or two of DW shellac, or just mix them with a few drops of H20 based acrylic urethane, instead of NGR or similar when making small batches of touch up. The color depth is far greater when working with the tints than NGR's..and instead of having to work from lighter colors down to darker shades, which are better for graining and spot touch up, it's reversed..starting with a super dark, concentrated color and going lighter if needed...I find that more intuitive and faster ...especially when mixing a teaspoons worth of color or so... The acrylics and the gels stay put under any topcoat during the application ,especially handy when padding on shellac or waterbase stuff..which can pull NGR off when you don't want it to. just keep in mind that the gels take far longer to set, while the waterbased or alcohol/methanol based stuff sets up in a few minutes Adding a drop or two of DW shellac to NGR when graining or spot coloring helps them stay put better, too....especially true if your padding or brushing over it.
