The gel will work for graining,toning, antiquing etc....I often will add some TransTints to it to make it a deeper color, or shift the color redder, more amber, etc. You need to add the dye to some acetone first and then stir it into the gel. They're great under poly and other varnishes as they stain, seal and fill grain a bit....and they're excellent on Poplar and softer woods that tend to blotch with most oil stains..
