Teak is so oily that good adheasion will only occur when a strong solvent is used, right before finishing. I would prefer spar varnish, as it will hold up to the UV longer, and can be easily recoated. My folks house, back in the 60's was varnished on the redwood parts, and it still looks good. My sign carving friend in the eighties had every redwood sign come back for refinishing after 5 or 6 years, with flaking poly. You do the math.
