When that happens I use a good set of colored pencils between coats of finish to lighten and then create new grain over the spot, working darker colors as I proceed. One color and one dusting of sealer, then another till I have created a likeness of the missing grain. Then a light dusting of toner and the result is very hard to detect, the layers become irredesent like the wood. Also a little bronzing powder early on, helps to create the light reflecting qualities.
