Thanks for the suggestions. This bowfront looks to be late Sheraton or perhaps very early Empire. It doesn't have the massiveness of Empire, and the construction points to an early date. Anyway, The glue seems to be holding the veneer down tight, so I'll put a good paste wax on it as a protective layer. I just hope that it doesn't decide to peel in the future. Maybe the proper humidity will help there. One other problem though. The entire top is veneered in crotch mahogany as well. Again no loss of veneer, but either through drying, shrinkage--whatever--the veneer split at one point into a vee shape. One small section has come unglued but is still attached at one end. What can I do? I assume it was held in place by hide glue, and I've used hot hide glue before so I'm familiar with its properties. Can i inject a little warm water under there, apply heat and weight or what? The piece looks great and is worth some attention. Alternative ideas as to what to do would be great. I can try getting a jpeg if that would help.
