repairing the tambour section on a rolltop desk

I am in the process of refinishing a circa 1895 mahogany rolltop desk. The canvas is dried and cracked and several slats have come loose. I would like to know the best solution to use to remove the old canvas from the slats. I am using titebond hide glue on the new canvas and would welcome any suggestions on the best method or technique to use to re-align the slats on the new canvas.
