I use vinegar to help soften dried alphetic resin glue like titebond, but they are very sensetive to steam and alcohol, of corse alcohol is not always good aroubd finishes. Still when it comes to very heavy ammounts of yellow glue I will get out the propane torch, wet the wood with a spray bottle and literally melt the thick build with a very low flame. The stuff just melts, as long as the wood remains damp it won't scorch.
