There was a wire spring that reached around under the tray to hold it in place, and alloy for adjustment. It didn't work well to keep the child in place, as if anything reall does, a new tray system may work better and safer. Uf you wish only historical accuracy, you will need to find someone who can duplicate or recreate the sliding device. I do not know where you can find one like that, however, short of the local craftsman.
