I am a DIYer, and working on a dining set. The table top was a mess, so I stripped it with Citri-Strip from Home Depot. EZ to use, no stink. Scrape off with plastic spatula and paper towels, then wipe down with mineral spirits (no odor). On the rest of the set, I hate to admit it, but I am just painting over the chairs after wiping down with mineral spirits. They are taking forever to dry, but looking good. I'm using Minwax stain with sealer.

I know the professionals are barfing right about now, but decide just how bad the finish really is. Tiny scratches on anything can be touched up with an artist brush and the stain. There's great information in here about using car buffing compound, Murphy's oil soap, and lemon oil.

I'm having a heckuva time with the table top because of dust; it's humid and cool and taking forever to dry. I have to keep wiping the stain off with mineral spirits. I may just take the table apart and take the top to a professional. Good luck
