Hi, As James says, it is most likely powder post beetles. Get it in the garage and make an airtight tent around the piece and place some lindane in a bowl. Forget it for a while.

The beetles have already entered, usually around a joint, laid eggs and left--probably. Teh eggs hatch, the larve eat awhile (hence the powder on the floor) and leave---to go into another piece of your furniture.

If you have the means you can also make an airtight tent and replace the oxygen with nitrogen or other gas. This will kill the larve as well, they need oxygen too...
