I'm not familar with the company, but if you look closely at the paint job you will notice brush marks and drips along the bottom edges. This is a good indication of a repaint after mfg. Try to see if the wood had a stain on the unpainted areas below, chip off some of the paint and a stain and finish will appear underneath if it was stained and finished. Practically all this stuff was made for the man's taste and was finished, usually dark. If the paint chipping shows bare wood then it isn't likely that there was a finish on the wood first and you will need to sand a lot to get the paint out of the grain. But it may be worth it if the wood is of good quality.
