ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Just bought a nice old oak file cabinet (globe-wernicke). I'd guess it is 60 years old. I can create a link to the ebay listing that has a number of pics. It's taken some lumps, but really looks like it just needs some restoration. I am an absolute rookies when it comes to this, and dont think I want to get involved in a big sanding job. However, if that's what needs to be done, I could do that too.
The problem is that I want this piece to look better, but not "completely" restored to the point that it looks new and not old. Any advice, suggestion?!?!? I'd appreciate any and all comments.
THANKS!
