Hi Greg, thank you for the swift response. The black marks must have been rubber. When I used goof-off, I had to use 0000 steel wool to get it off. It took so long, and the stuff smelled so bad, and there was so much of it, I decided to strip it. Stripping left black stains where the rubber stuff was, except the small portion I removed with goof off before I stripped it. I sanded a small portion of the black stain, it didn't seem to help because it was so deep. This is a mahogany table with veneer. I know it's veneer because it got chipped on the way in. Now that I've stained the table, the marks still show through. Do you think I can use goof off on the minwax stain where the black marks still show through? Before I put the minwax on, I tried bleach, but it didn't work either. Maybe I didn't leave it on long enough?
