In the attempt to fix the cracked portions with epoxy, I'm concerned that the top rail may break again through a close area due to the leverage the high top places on that section.
I have considered drilling holes up from the bottom (through the groove that holds the lower panel) in order to epoxy in either dowels or aluminum rod to strengthen that section. I know wood would be most appropriate, but I don't think that a small dowel would add much strenth. I think the aluminum rods would add the extra strength, but...is that an "acceptable" solution given its hidden nature?
