Actually Greg, there can be lead in shellac, there should not be any by nature but the fact is that some shellac does have a little. Don't ask me how, possibly back in some decades there was lead solder used in the processing equipment. Or some drifts into the mix from a guy with an air nozzle down the street who likes to blow his dust out the window. But it has been shown to exist in almost all refinishing dust even when surfaces are well stripped, the sanding dust will produce some lead frequently. Most finishes today do not, but some shellac is still showing small amounts today.
