In Response To: refurbish finish on pine grained jelly cupboard (Alice)

You should clean and polish the finish, then wax and shine to a satin sheen. A cool water with mild dish soap will do, clean a small area and quickly dry, then move on. Next remove the remaing wax and dirt with paint thinner and 0000 steel wool. Scrub an area and then wipe off the loosened grime with a paper towel, as you get down to the clean surface the towel will show less dirt as you wipe. Avoid heavy abrasive use of the steel wool on the edges and corners. Choose a satin wax, look for a tolulene free product. Work in about 12 x 12 inch square area, allow to set a little and buff to a satin shine.
