ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

I need to find out the best way to remove paint marks from an antique chifforobe. It was stored for awhile in a playroom, so it has brush marks of "kid paint" in various places. I was afraid to try much scratching on it for fear of scraping off the finish - it doesn't seem to be extremely thick.
Also, should I avoid going over the handpainted areas of the chiffarobe when I use Scott's Liquid Gold on the rest of the piece?
Thanks
