ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

I am trying to figure the best way to find out more information on an antique bed I have.
It was passed to me from my grandfather, who got it when my 56 year old father was 4 or 5. They got it from a woman in her middle to late eighties, who said she had slept in it as a child. My grandfather estimates that the bed is at least 125 years old.
The bed is made of a medium brown colored wood and is fairly heavy. It has four round posts with balls on top. Below the balls there are a few more round indentations on the posts, but they aren't very ornate. The head and footboards are plain, but have an inset panel on the large flat part, and scoop up on the top side to a flat part in the center. The frame of the bed is made of thick long boards that are attached to the head and footboards with GIANT screws!about 12-14 inches long with a head the size of a half dollar) Finally, it has 7 or so "slats" that run the length of the bed and fit into specially numbered grooves on the head and footboards.
If anyone can offer any information about the bed from my attempt at a description, or direction to sources that can help, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks
