Two things I use for this problem work well for me. 1. clean the entire piece inside and out with a mix of 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide, 1/8 Tsp bakeing soda and a few drops of mild dish soap. Wipe this on and allow it to set a minute then wipe off with a dry cloth. 2. sprinkel ground cinnamon inside the case, into the drawers and brush it around so that it works into all the open grain, and leave the powder for as long as it takes to do the job. Repeat the first step if needed and follow with more ground cinnamon. 3. Wax the outer surfaces with a good satin wax.
