I inherited some furniture from an elderly relative. It's permeated with her very stinky perfume, plus the smell of old lady, plus the usual mustiness of old furniture. Peeeeeeyew!
The most valuable piece, a Queen Ann secretary, smells especially strongly. Obviously, I don't want to damage the original finish. My plan is to wipe it down with mineral spirits, then fill up the drawers/glassfront cabinet with charcoal held in plastic bowls. I will leave it in my garage for the winter (remind me to keep my car windows shut!). Any other suggestions?
