Interested to read what you said, Roger and Tim.
I am an amateur so without your experience. I would not want to get too academic on this subject - I am doing things for my personal enjoyment.
Recently for the first time in 40 years I decided to have fun doing French Polishing for the experience.
I treated 2 separate pieces of Ercol beech and elm coffee tables from totally differing sources so I was not after a matched pair.
I am delighted with the results but have one question.
I used straight shellac onto the natural wood. The colour of the shellac is a bit coarse. How might I have mellowed it down to a warmer older tone? Would it be by staining the wood or pigmenting/dying the shellac?
