Greg, How can I tell what the wood is? It's dark, I 'd describe it as softer than a mahogany and the grain is wider. I think it must be a very common type of wood because it's really not a fancy piece. I like the idea of washing it and waxing it. That sounds like it would preserve it and protect it from our very dry air. Shall I use Elmer's Wood Glue on the footboard? Thanks for your thoughts.
