I have a 1958 Eames lounger and ottoman in need of complete restoration from the shocks to the leather, but I wonder about the loss of the "integrity" of the chair if it has new leather, refinished wood surfaces, etc. It is unusable now (the leather is cracked; a few feathers are coming out; the finish is dry and "white streaks" have been appearing. It would look extraordinary (just like 1958) if fully restored and we could actually sit in it. Does anyone have comments on restoration vs. leaving a vintage piece alone?
